Tigre Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL) 5.0 is a high quality, off-white or light tan natural hydraulic lime that is excellent for pointing as well as laying up harder brick and stone.  We have found that this material firms up more quickly than other NHL materials we have used. The working time is reduced, but it is still more than 2 hours.

Tigre Natural Hydraulic Lime demonstrates high water vapor permeability while maintaining an impermeability to liquid water that allows surfaces plastered with Tigre mortars to “breathe.”  This particular NHL has excellent hydraulic properties that favor working environments with high humidity such as basements or damp locations both indoors and out. Its remarkable plasticity coupled with enhanced adhesion reduces a tendency to crack and allows for both comfortable and effective working mortar. If excessive amounts of water are mixed with the mortar in order to be used in a grout bag, we saw shrinkage cracks. However, this can be mitigated by reducing the water content or increasing the lime-to-sand ratio.  For example, we will use a 1:2 ratio to back-fill rubble stone walls.

We have used these materials in stucco and pointing and can say, without a doubt, we love Tigre and so will you!  Check out Our Services to see how we can help in your mortar and/or plaster needs!

Cemento Natural Tigre is a small, family-owned business in the Catalon area of Spain.  They have been producing natural lime and cement since 1945 and are now the only producers left in Spain. We recently visited the offices, quarries, and kilns and learned that the vertical kilns they operate have been running continuously since they were built over a century ago.  Tigre’s products are high quality materials that we found makes matching to existing lime mortar very simple, especially in the northeast region of the U.S.  We thoroughly enjoyed meeting this family that runs all aspects of Tigre daily business. This type of company allows us the opportunity to help keep the tradition alive. Check out the Cemento Natural Tigre website!
